Tax change history is a read-only record of changes to your tax settings: who changed what, and when. Use it to find out why tax on your orders changed, or to check a change someone else made.

Where to find it

In the admin, click the Settings gear in the top bar. In the Settings sidebar, under Commerce, select Taxes. At the top of the Tax screen, click View Change History. To see View Change History and open the page, your role needs both of these, in the Settings card of the role’s Permissions tab:
  • View company details under Companies
  • View company country settings under Company Countries
If your role is missing either, ask an admin who manages roles to update it. See Roles.

What’s on the screen

The page is titled Tax change history. Its breadcrumb, Tax > Change history, takes you back to the Tax screen. Each row is one change, newest first:
  • When: how long ago the change happened, for example 2 hours ago. Hover over it to see the exact date and time.
  • Who: the admin or droplet that made the change, or System. Under the name, via shows how they made it.
  • What: what changed, such as Company tax mode changed, Country tax settings updated or Avalara account updated. Changes to your Avalara account show a Production or Sandbox badge for the environment.
  • Where: Company for a company-wide change, or the country’s flag and name.
  • Changes: the first two fields that changed, from the old value to the new one, for example Tax mode: Fluid’s Tax Solution → Avalara. If more fields changed, the row says how many more. Click Show details to see every field, and Hide details to close them.
Credentials and tax IDs are never shown. Those fields read changed (hidden). Click Load more at the bottom to see older changes.

Filter the history

Use the filters above the list:
  • Country: show changes for one of your countries.
  • Action: show one kind of change, such as Avalara settings updated or Avalara connection tested.
  • From and To: show changes made between two dates.
Click Clear filters to show everything again. The filters are saved in the page’s address, so you can copy the link to share the same view with your team or with support.
