Safe Mode lets you explore with Mist without any risk of changing production. Mist can read your data and edit files on your computer, but it can’t change anything live. Use Safe Mode when you want to:
  • Ask questions about your company’s data.
  • Try out changes to a project on your computer before you decide to publish.
  • Run a skill you haven’t used before, to see what it does.
  • Let someone new learn Mist.

Turn Safe Mode on or off

Click Safe Mode in the title bar. While it’s on, a green frame surrounds the Mist window. Click Safe Mode again to turn it off. Safe Mode stays on or off until you change it, even after you restart Mist. It starts off.

What Safe Mode blocks

While Safe Mode is on, Mist can’t:
  • Publish or deploy anything, including when you click Publish.
  • Make changes through the Fluid API. Mist can still read data.
  • Create projects.
  • Start workflows from the chat.
  • Run Fluid CLI commands that change your company, such as push, publish, create, update or delete commands.
  • Change a Mist app’s environment variables through the Fluid CLI.
  • Push code with Git, or publish a package.
  • Import products, or save videos into your DAM.
  • Click or type in the preview for you.
  • Update your brand voice, or reply to preview comments.
  • Use tools from other apps you’ve connected to Mist through MCP servers.
When Mist tries one of these, it stops and tells you “Safe Mode is on — this action would modify production. Toggle Safe Mode off to proceed.”, with what it blocked.

What still works

  • Reading your company’s data, through the Fluid API and read-only database queries.
  • Editing files in projects on your computer.
  • Running projects locally, and taking screenshots of the preview.
  • Fetching web pages.
