Every conversation with Mist is a chat. Mist saves each chat, so you can come back later and pick up where you left off, or see how something was built.

Start a chat

Click New chat in the Chats section of the sidebar, or press Cmd+N (Ctrl+N on Windows). Each project also has its own chats, listed with the project in the sidebar.

Find an earlier chat

  • In the sidebar, look under Chats, or under the project you worked on.
  • Type in Search projects at the top of the sidebar. It also finds chats by title.
Search matches chat titles only, not the messages inside a chat.

Manage a chat

Click Chat options at the top of a chat for:
  • Pin or Unpin: pin the chat, or unpin it.
  • Rename: give the chat a new title.
  • Close chat: remove the chat from the sidebar.
You can also right-click a chat in the sidebar and click Close chat.
Closing a chat hides it, but Mist keeps the transcript on your computer. Mist doesn’t have a way to reopen a closed chat.

Edit, rewind or delete a message

Hover over a message you sent to see its actions:
  • Edit message: change the message and run it again.
  • Rewind to here: drop everything after this message. Mist asks you to confirm.
  • Delete message: delete this message and everything after it. This can’t be undone.
To clear the whole chat, type /clear. See Slash commands.

Limits

  • Mist keeps the latest 200 messages of each chat. Older messages drop off.
  • Chats are saved on your computer, not in your Fluid account. If you sign out, your chat history stays on this computer.

Frequently asked questions

No. History in the preview toolbar is the version history of a project’s files and publishes, with a way to roll back. See Run and publish. Changes Mist made to your company through the Fluid API are in Time Machine.
Type /compact and send it. Mist writes a short summary of the goals, decisions and current state. Start a new chat and paste the summary in, so the new chat starts with what matters.
