This page explains how Fluid calculates the figures on the admin’s Home, Orders and Subscriptions screens. Use it to read those numbers correctly, and to get the same numbers from your reporting database. The screens don’t all count the same way. Where they differ, this page says so.

Revenue on the Home screen

Every revenue figure on Home uses the same rules:
  • Which orders count: orders whose financial status is paid, refund_pending, partially_refunded or marked_paid, with a total above zero. Pending, authorized, refunded, voided and free orders don’t count. Orders with a zero total, such as samples and free orders, are left out.
  • Order status isn’t used. An order counts by its financial status alone.
  • Refunds aren’t subtracted. A partly refunded order counts at its full original total.
  • The amount is the order’s full total, including tax and shipping, in US dollars as recorded with the order. Fluid then converts the total into your company’s default currency, or the currency of the country you chose in the country selector. When there’s no exchange rate, the amount counts as zero.
  • The date is the order’s sale date, or the date it was created when it has no sale date.
  • Month means the calendar month so far, up to today.

Average order value

Revenue quality on Home shows three average order values for the month so far. Each is revenue ÷ number of orders, rounded to two decimal places, under the revenue rules above.
  • AOV blended: all orders.
  • AOV new: orders that are the buyer’s first counted order ever. In a chosen country, it’s the buyer’s first counted order in that country. Orders with no buyer on record count as new.
  • AOV returning: every other order.
Subscriptions and One-time split the same revenue. An order counts as a subscription order when a subscription placed it or it started a subscription. Two other screens show an average with different rules:
  • Avg Order Amount (USD) on Orders: the average US dollar total of the orders that match your filters, leaving out orders with a zero total. Every order status and financial status counts unless you filter by one. Total Sales (USD) is the sum of the same totals.
  • Average Order Value on Subscriptions: the average US dollar total of all orders linked to the subscriptions that match your filters. It doesn’t filter by status or leave out zero totals.

Subscribers and churn

So Subscribers on Home can be higher than Active Subscriptions on Subscriptions: the difference is your past-due subscriptions.

Get the same numbers from your reporting database

To match Home’s revenue for a month, use these filters on orders. The dollar amount Home uses is the one recorded with the order, so keep rows where base_source = 'stored'.
This gives the figures in US dollars. Home converts them into your default currency, so expect a difference when that isn’t US dollars. To count subscribers as Home does, count commerce_subscriptions rows whose status is active or past_due.

Metrics Fluid doesn’t calculate

The admin has no figure for gross merchandise value (GMV), net revenue after refunds, customer lifetime value, repeat purchase rate, retention cohorts or monthly recurring revenue. If you calculate one from your reporting database, decide and write down your own rules. For example, whether you subtract total_refunded, which financial statuses you count, and whether a cancelled subscription still counts until the end of the period it paid for.
